Forex trading is both an art and a science. While investors must possess an impressive level of technical experience, intuition and “striking while the iron is hot” can also have an impact on success. This is even more relevant to those who have already become familiar with the basics.

Are there any unique strategies that might be able to provide you with an additional edge? Let’s examine a handful of lesser-known suggestions that will enable you to adopt a more well-rounded approach, and increase your chances of walking away a winner.

Monotony is not Necessarily a Bad Thing

Some Forex investors who have recently become involved might automatically assume that excitement exists around every digital corner. However, there are plenty of times when monotony takes centre stage. It is therefore wise to learn to trade while developing a tolerance for occasional boredom. Stick to a proven routine, and avoid becoming involved with every new opportunity.

    Less Could be More

We are referring to quality versus quantity in this respect. It can be quite tempting to enter into numerous positions at any given time. Is more better? Not necessarily. One problem here is that it can become exceedingly difficult to monitor numerous open Forex positions. This can result in losses that might have otherwise been avoided. Secondly, becoming involved with high-probability trades is the best way to mitigate the inherent risks associated with the currency exchange markets.

    Look Towards the Horizon

Whether or not we like to admit it, even the most seasoned Forex investors will experience losses on occasion. The main question involves how you deal with such perceived setbacks. Some will view a loss as a signal to exit the marketplace entirely. Others could instead look upon these scenarios as learning experiences. We are referring to the psychology of trading in this respect. Remember that there are no certainties within the world of investing, and the Forex markets are no different.

    NFP Figures

What is NFP in Forex?. NFP is an abbreviation for non-farm payroll. This is actually one of the most important economic indicators in the United States. NFP analyses will highlight the number of paid workers throughout the country (excluding sectors such as farming and governmental positions).

This report is released on a monthly basis, and it is used to appreciate the broad economic conditions of the country at any given time. High NFP figures (more than 100,000 newly created jobs) tend to signal a healthy economy, while fewer may hint at a sluggish outlook. Either way, NFP reports will impact the value of the dollar, and therefore, its relation to other currencies such as the pound and the euro. Be sure to take this information into account.

    Keeping it Simple

It can become tempting to use every technical and fundamental indicator available when predicting the outcome of a specific Forex position. The problem here is that confusion may also set in. Most successful traders agree that (once again) less is more. Become acclimated with a handful of utilities that best suit your trading style, and embrace these as central tools within your arsenal. Furthermore, only update your strategy when absolutely necessary.

    Avoid Emotional Attachment

It has been rightfully said that the financial markets are primarily governed by greed and fear. Although this is true to a large extent, you do not have to fall victim to these feelings. Emotion-based trading can easily cloud judgement, and lead to costly mistakes. It is much better to view any position from an objective perspective. This will provide you with the clarity required to make important decisions (such as when to increase a holding, and when to walk away).

    Know When Enough is Enough

A final recommendation involves the ability to avoid burnout. Every Forex investor will reach a point where he or she needs to take a step back. This can result from mental fatigue, physical fatigue, or a combination of both. Similar to running a marathon, make it a point to pace yourself, and to realise when a breather is in order.

All of these suggestions can be easily implemented within your existing trading strategy. Perhaps the most important takeaway points are to remain open to new approaches, and to develop a flexible mindset. This will enable you to take advantage of the latest opportunities, to mute the impact of risk, and to enjoy a healthy rate of return.
