If you’ve ever wanted to place a call and have been hit with the ‘You do not have sufficient airtime to make this call’, then you will appreciate Safaricom’s late feature called Reverse Calls.
Reverse calls allow the caller to transfer the charges for a call to the recipient. This can be simply enabled on Safaricom by adding ‘#’ before the number they are calling.
A customer receiving a reverse call request will see the caller’s details appear on the screen as normal, but once they pick the call, they will receive a voice prompt asking them to key in “1” to accept the reverse call. The cost of the call will be equivalent to the receiver’s normal call cost. The service is only available for on-net calls and will not be applicable for off-net, roaming and international calls. Meaning at the moment you will only be able to use this feature for Safaricom to Safaricom calls only.

Reverse Calls were very huge in the 90s when making calls was very expensive thereby callers preferred passing on that cost to whomever they were calling.
The introduction of this feature by Safaricom is interesting but there are obviously many use cases for this like let’s say a student in campus calling their parent would definitely find this very handy.
