Lake Turkana Wind Power's extra Ksh9.6B Penalty Demands From Government Put on Spot

The Senate has raised an alarm over the Lake Turkana Wind Power’s demands for an extra Ksh9.6 billion from the government as penalties for the late completion of a transmission line from Marsabit to Suswa.

A statement filed by Moses Wetangula before the senate said that the company is demanding the monies in addition to about Ksh6 billion shillings it previously claimed for the idle generation of electricity as government delayed to set up transmission lines.

The Senator also want the government to be probed for the Ksh5.7 billion it had already paid to LTWP as penalties imposed.

Kenyan government had guaranteed LWTP Ksh1 billion monthly electricity cost losses if KETRACO would not have set up transmission infrastructure by 31 August 2018.

In effect, the legislators have summoned energy cabinet secretary Charles Keter to appear before the energy committee to respond to the inquiries.
