Governors from the 14 lake region counties are meeting in Kisii County to pass key bills that will ratify the formation of a commercial bank for the economic bloc.
The county bosses at the two-day Lake Region Economic Bloc summit have maintained their outfit is strong even with some counties delaying to pass a legislation that will facilitate creation of the bank.
“There is need for assemblies to own this initiative and be free to consult their respective executive arms on matters they believe need to be examined in order to come up with legislation that will create the bank,” the host governor James Ongwae stated.
He added that already there is a policy in place to guide the contributions of member counties to realise their goals where each of the 14 counties is expected to contribute Ksh200 million for the regional flagship project.
LREB’s summit chair, Governor Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungom), urged respective county assemblies to pass the Regional Bloc Bill.
The bill if passed will speedily create the bank for economic stability in the region.
