The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has waived KSh 140billion in penalties, interest and fines for over 1.9 million taxpayers in the ongoing Tax Amnesty Program.
- •KRA says it has collected KShs 4 billion in principal tax payments since relaunching the amnesty.
- •The amnesty, which runs until June 2025, includes waivers on penalties, interest and fines for tax debts accrued up to 31st December 2023.
- •The taxman collected KSh1.243 trillion by the end of 2024 against a target of KSh 2.7 trillion this financial year.
“In spite of the progressive growth, the collection was affected by various economic indicators that directly drive revenue collection. For instance, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth slowed to 4 percent in the third quarter 2024, down from 6.1 percent in third quarter 2023, and 4.6 percent in second quarter 2024,” said KRA Acting Commissioner, Strategy, Innovation and Risk Management, Alex Mwangi.
Taxpayers with outstanding principal taxes up to 31st December 2023 must apply via the iTax system and submit a structured payment plan for full settlement of the outstanding principal taxes by 30th June 2025.
