The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is urging taxpayers who have not filed their 2017 tax returns to do so before the June 30 deadline.
The penalty for a late income tax return filing is Sh20,000 for an individual according to the Tax Procedures Act 2015.
According to the Authority, more than 2.5 million taxpayers have filed their 2017 tax returns on the iTax platform. KRA acknowledges that this is an improvement compared to the 1.76 million people that filed their tax returns under the resident and non-resident categories by the deadline last year.
KRA attributes the improvement to the increased efficiency of the iTax platform, increased awareness, and on-site assistance provided to organisations throughout the country.
“In the spirit of building taxpayers’ trust as stipulated in our mission statement, KRA is committed to facilitating all taxpayers, especially during these last two days.” says KRA in a statement.
KRA officials will set camp in 38 service stations and 51 KRA Huduma Centres across the country on Saturday. Taxpayers can also receive help from KRA’s regional offices located throughout the country.
