KRA Starts Issuing Instant Tax Compliance Certificates

The Kenya Revenue Authority will issue instant tax compliance certificates to all Kenyans with a clean tax record. This is thanks to the new simplified self-service feature which encourages transparency and efficiency.

“Taxpayers applying for Tax Compliance Certificates (TCCs) on the KRA iTax Portal will now get the certificate on the spot. The automatic issuance of the TCCs will be subject to a clean tax record,” reads a statement from the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes.

KRA rolled out the new automated service in January 15th, serving over 15,000 applications in the past 5 days. Moreover, a statement from the agency also reveals that using the system to clear out pending applications from the past.

“With the simplified process in place, there will no longer be intervention by KRA staff in the application and issuance of the document.”

Individuals with outstanding tax debts can clear their liabilities first or apply for a payment plan to pay outstanding obligations. Later, the parties can proceed to apply for the TCC upon paying the first instalment.

Nevertheless, the agency requires Kenyans to file their tax returns as part of mandatory compliance. This, together with clearing existing tax obligations will allow individuals to obtain the 12 months certificate of compliance.
