The search for the next Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority has begun with five of the 30 candidates shortlisted having gone through the tax collector’s board approval.
The search for Njiraini’s successor is one that will be of interest to many given that the government has struggled to hit its revenue collection targets over the last five years. The agency is trying to shake off allegations of corruption among some of its senior executives.

“By the closing date, thirty (30) applications were received of which twenty-eight (28) were from male candidates and two (2) from female candidates. ” KRA Chairman Francis Muthaura said in a notice.
The five shortlisted candidates are Julius Waita Mwatu, who currently serves as the chairman of Kenya’s Institute of Public Accountants, Mr Duncan Otieno Onduru; the CEO of Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA), Andrew Kazora Okello; IMF regional advisor in charge of East and Central Africa on tax matters, KPMG Partner Richard Boro Ndung’u and James Githii Mburu who is KRA’s Commissioner for strategic operations.
