Kenya Airways (KQ) has signed a codeshare agreement with JetBlue airline, allowing Kenyans living in Minnesota to fly nonstop to Nairobi.
The move comes as a boost to the carrier just ahead of the summer season when a lot of tourists travel to Kenya for holidays.
The deal will see KQ passengers in Minnesota directly book their flights to Kenya, as well as fly out of Minnesota to get on the nonstop JFK to Nairobi flight. They will then collect their luggage at JKIA.
The agreement will also allow JetBlue passengers to book a through ticket to Nairobi, further allowing them to enjoy seamless connections to the rest of KQ’s destinations.
KQ’s direct flight from New York cut the journey to 15 hours on the long haul route, as part of efforts to revive the carrier’s fortunes. The airline had forecast its daily direct flights to the US would boost annual revenues by more than 10% in 2019 and 2020.
JetBlue Airways is an American low cost airline, and the seventh largest airline in North America by passengers carried. In 2020, the carrier ranked 394 financially on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.
JetBlue operates over 1,000 flights daily and serves 100 domestic and international network destinations in the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, and Europe.
