KQ Adds More Destinations via New Codeshare Agreement with Air Austral

National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has added more destinations for its clientele, after signing a new codeshare agreement with Reunion Island-based Air Austral.

The agreement is expected to give KQ customers improved connectivity to the Indian Ocean Islands.

Passengers from Kenya Airways will be able to access Air Austral hub of Saint-Denis, Reunion Island and onward destinations, whereas Air Austral passengers will have access to KQ’s Nairobi through connecting flights in Madagascar, Mauritius and Johannesburg.

“This partnership offers us an opportunity to provide our guests with access to more destinations in the Indian Ocean Islands and opens up the country for tourism opportunities from visitors coming from the islands,” says KQ Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu.

The codeshare allows customers to benefit from a single fare and a single ticket for an entire trip within the codeshare routes.

Meanwhile, the Labour court has granted Kenya Airways (KQ) an injunction that stops the national carrier’s pilots from going on strike this week.

The Pilots Association issued a strike notice on 19th October 2022, citing, among other things, the airline’s failure to contribute to their Provident Fund.

The court has slated the petition for hearing on November 8 2022.

Kenya Airways chairman Michael Joseph Joseph says that over the past six months, KQ has witnessed an improved performance marked by full flights, increased frequencies and improved financial position, that readies the carrier to breakeven by 2024.
