Kenya Airways (KQ) is finally seeing the possibility of scheduling direct flights from Nairobi to Tel Aviv, Israel. This is after Sudan gave the Israeli national carrier, El Al, permission to fly over its airspace.
Initially, Kenya Airways intended to begin the direct flights to Israel in March this year, until Sudan thwarted its dreams. According to Sudan, diplomatic differences between them and Israel did not allow planes going into or out of Israel to use its airspace.
However, it seems Sudan has now warmed to the idea, seeing that it has allowed the Israeli national airline to fly over its territory.
When implemented, KQ will be the third airline in the East African region to fly directly to Israel. Rwandair was the first, having begun the flights last year. Furthermore, Uganda is also set to begin flying the route, after signing an agreement with Israel.
