The 2019 On-Time performance (OTP) review has ranked Kenya Airways (KQ) last among the ten carriers in the Middle East and Africa.
The top three airlines with respect to arrival time in the region were as follows:
- Qatar Airlines – 82.45%
- Emirates Airlines – 81.02%
- South African Airlines (SAA) – 79.38%
According to Paul Njoroge, Kenya Airways Director of Operations, the poor performance is a result of the more than twenty four flights that were cancelled last year as a result of the employees’ strike, who were protesting against merging KQ and KAA.
Furthermore, two of KQ’s Embraer 190 planes were removed from schedule after colliding in the hangar while undergoing maintenance, thus causing further delays.
