KQ Expands Codeshare Agreement with Alitalia

Kenya Airways (KQ)and Alitalia have signed an enhanced codeshare agreement, that seeks to create additional connectivity to the networks of the two airlines.

The move, also, seeks to boost business travel and tourism between African points into Europe, the Far East and South America, thus giving tourists and businessmen additional travel options. This mainly includes areas in Central and Southern Africa.

The expansion, therefore, allows Alitalia to place its ‘AZ’ flight code on Kenya Airways’ service to Malindi, where it started flights in June last year, seeking to tap into the Italian market. On the other hand, Kenya Airways will place its ‘KQ’ flight code on Alitalia services from Rome to Tirana – Albania, Podgorica- Montenegro, Santiago – Chile, Buenos Aires – Argentina, Sao Paulo – Brazil, Rio de Janerio, Seoul – South Korea.

The expansion of this partnership after such a short period reflects the opportunities that have been unlocked since the inception of the Nairobi to Rome flight, and serves as a testament to our continued commitment to create access for travellers to Africa.

Alitalia is the flag carrier of Italy, with headquarters in Fiumicino, Rome. Its main hub is Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Rome, and a secondary is Linate Airport, Milan. The airline also has direct flights to Johannesburg, Casablanca, Algeria, Tunis, and Cairo.

Kenya Airways also has codeshare agreements with other airlines including Safarilink, Oman Air, Delta Airlines, EgyptAir, and India’s Jet Airways.
