KPLC Blocks Third party Token Purchase

The Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) has locked out third-party agents from selling tokens to pre-paid customers effective September 1.

The energy utility firm said payments for tokens and postpaid bills will be restricted to only its authorized channels.

Customers on prepaid channels will purchase their tokens via the M-Pesa Paybill number 888880, while those enrolled on the postpaid channels will pay their monthly bills through M-Pesa Paybill number 888888 or via authorized banks.

The authorized banks for postpaid agencies are Absa Bank, Citi Bank, Cooperative Bank, Family Bank, Equity Bank, I&M Bank, NCBA Bank, Stanbic Bank, National Bank, DTB Kenya Limited, and KCB Bank.

Customers seeking a new connection from the electricity firm have been directed to make their payments via the M-Pesa Paybill number 888899.

In addition to the Playbill numbers and bank payments, customers can also buy tokens and pay their electricity bills through Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code *977#.

Moreover, customers have also been encouraged to visit any KPLC banking halls if they want to access the listed services.

The electricity firm has further warned its customers not to make transactions through any other platform apart from the ones indicated as it will not be held accountable for such payments.

“Please note that no other third-party agent is authorized to offer these services on behalf of KPLC. The company will therefore not take liability for any transaction conducted through any other platform,” it said.
