On Wednesday, Noordin Haji the Director of public prosecution directed the arraignment of Tabitha Mukami Muigai and Joseph Karanja Muigai the directors of Keroche Breweries.
The action was taken after KRA submitted an inquiry to the DPP’s office, accusing Keroche Breweries Limited of Tax fraud on Products. According to the file, KRA alleged that Keroche evaded Excise Duty and Value Added tax for various products manufactured and sold between January 2015 and June 2019.
A press statement from the DPP reads “…having independently reviewed the file and applying the provisions of the National Prosecution Policy. I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the Public Interest to charge the suspects listed herein with 10 Counts of Tax Fraud…”
Therefore, the DPP ordered their arraignment after he was satisfied that the parties were involved in 10 counts of tax fraud worth KSh14.5 billion.
