Kenya’s Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service is pressing for the suspension of two chief executive officers of water works agencies over procurement and award of tenders.
On Friday, the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei asked the Board of the Athi Water Works Development Agency to suspend its Chief Executive Officer Michael Thuita pending investigations into alleged irregularities in the award of tender for construction of Ruiri 2, Karimenu and Kitui Matuu water projects undertaken by the agency.
Koskei also asked the Board of Central Rift Valley water works Development Agency to suspend its Chief Executive Officer Samuel Oruma pending investigations into alleged procurement irregularities in the implementation of water supply and sanitation system for Bomet/Longisa/Mulot towns project within the jurisdiction of the agency.
The head of public service in letters to the chairmen of the two boards says that the two CEOs are in office, not withstanding the gravity of allegations and the quantum of resources under inquiry.
Koskei says the inordinate delay in taking action on the part of the board of directors and ministry is undermining the governments war against corruption.
According to a letter drafted on 24 May this year by the EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak to the water CS Alice Wahome, Eacc had unravelled continued malpractices that led to massive corruption at the Athi Water Works Development Authority.
According the Citizen Digital, Mbarak and EACC sleuths say they received allegations of corruption and massive embezzlement of public funds, and began investigations.
