Kenya’s Fuel Prices Lowered in Latest EPRA Review

Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will now retail at Kshs.207.36, 196.47 and 194.23 for the next 30 days in Nairobi following a monthly fuel review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

    • •The regulator lowered petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene by Kshs.5.00, Kshs.5.00 and KShs.4.82 per litre respectively.
    • •The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased by 2.40 per cent from US$694.44 per cubic metre in November 2023 to US$677.78 per cubic metre in December 2023.
    • •Diesel decreased by 9.06 per cent from US$826.01 per cubic metre to US$751.15 per cubic metre while Kerosene decreased by 4.33 per cent from US$759.93 per cubic metre to US$727.00 per cubic metre.

“The price of Diesel has been cross-subsidized with that of Super Petrol. Oil Marketing Companies will be compensated for the under recovery of costs from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) Fund,” said Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, Director General EPRA.

Kenya currently imports all its petroleum product requirements in refined form and the products are traded in international markets based on a pricing benchmark provided by S&P Global Platts.

In other major cities such as Mombasa, Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will retail at Sh201.3, Sh193.41, and Sh191.05 respectively.

    • •In Kisumu, the commodity will retail at Sh207.12, Sh196.64 and Sh194.42 for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene respectively.
    • •Earlier, President William Ruto and the Energy Regulator (EPRA) had hinted at a drop in fuel prices, a trend they said might continue throughout the year.
    • •In December last year, EPRA slashed the pump prices by up to Sh5 per litre, the biggest drop since October 2021.
