Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that it is looking to implement blockchain technology in the country’s next presidential elections in a bid to try to rectify itself following accusations of vote rigging in the last polls.
The Commission says it has formed a task-force to guide the reform process that will see the adoption of blockchain – the technology at the heart of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
“The legal reform activity is at the preliminary stages and the Commission will be conducting stakeholder engagements, including incorporating views …… The priority areas for legal reform identified by the Commission include; Electoral technology – adoption of blockchain technology/distributed ledgers to enable presidential candidates securely access results real-time, enhancing transparency and alleviating suspicion/perceptions of opacity” IEBC said in a statement.
Use of blockchain in the 2022 elections will make the polls a lot more safe while enabling voters to solidify their ballots on the net. Blockchain would deliver complete trust and self confidence among the voters as the dispersed ledger technological know-how depends on a network of nodes that frequently synchronize information earning hacking and breach of safety pretty much not possible.
Earlier this year, Sierra Leone claimed it had become the first in the world to successfully deploy a block chain based voting solution.
