    Kenya's Big Four Agenda Receives Sh460bn in 2018/19 Budget

    The Treasury has allocated nearly Sh460 billion for the government’s Big Four agenda which targets food security, universal healthcare, manufacturing, and affordable housing.

    The achievement of the four agendas will involve enabler sectors like poverty reduction, application of ICT, security, flood control, infrastructure, transfer of funds to county governments, and water harvesting.

    Financing the Big Four

    Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich allocated the largest share to the agriculture sector which is responsible for attaining food security and in part, the manufacturing sector.

    Sh2.4 billion was allocated to cater for value addition and boost the manufacturing sector’s share in order to attain a GDP growth of 15 per cent by 2022.

    The CS allotted Sh20.25 billion in improving food and nutrition security to all Kenyans by 2022, Sh6.5 billion for affordable and decent housing, and Sh44.6 billion for the provision of universal health cover which promises affordable and quality healthcare to all Kenyans.
