    Kenya's Benchmark Stock Market Index Hits 17 Year Low

    Kenya's Benchmark Stock Market Index Hits 17 Year Low

    Trading on Monday at the Nairobi Securities Exchange saw a turnover of Ksh 991.31 million in 1,165 deals. A total of 39.68 million shares were traded. Top mover of the day was Safaricom with a turnover of Ksh 832.98 million.

    The benchmark NSE 20 share index shed off 6.43 points to close at a multi-year low of 1797.67. According to data from the Finacial Times, the NSE 20 Share Index is at levels last seen in 2003. Over the last 12 months, the index has shed more than 30%.

    Safaricom was trading at an average of Ksh 26.85 closing the day with a 4.62% share price depreciation. Safaricom saw a 93.7% foreign investor participation. Safaricom books closure was on 31st July with shareholders expecting to receive a dividend of Ksh 1.40 on 30th August.

    Equity Group moved 2.26 million shares valued at Ksh 73.37 million in 96 deals. Equity stock was trading at an average of Ksh 32.40 closing the day with a 0.46% share price depreciation. KCB Group moved shares worth Ksh 29.26 million in 77 deals. KCB closed the day at Ksh 34.30 per share.

    Absa saw a turnover of Ksh 28.98 million exchanging 3.23 million shares at an average price of ?Ksh 8.98. I&M Holdings moved 295,100 shares valued at Ksh 13.28 million. I&M closed with a 2.6% share price depreciation at Ksh 45.00 per share.

    Co-operative bank saw a turnover of Ksh 4.47 million in 96 deals. Co-operative was trading at avrage of 10.55 per share.

    Nation Media Group was trading at an average of Ksh 10.70 per share. NMG realized a turnover of Ksh 386,905. WPP ScanGroup realized a turnover of Ksh 499,025 trading at an average of Ksh 11.05 per share. Bamburi Cement realized a turnover of 698,375 in 18 deals. Bamburi closed the day at Ksh 26.25 per share.

    KPLC realized a turnover of Ksh 801,739 trading at an average of Ksh 2.00 per share. Energy sector counterpart KenGen saw a turnover of Ksh 754,384 trading at an average of Ksh 6.04 per share.

    Top gainer of the day was Nairobi Business Ventures with a 8.33% share price appreciation closing at Ksh 0.65 per share. Other gainers of the day were: Carbacid Investment(7.59%), Trans-Century(6.01%), HF Group(4.12%) and Bamburi (2.94%)

    East African Cables closed the day with a 5.51% share price depreciation at Ksh 2.23 per share. Other losers of the day were: Stanbic Holdings(4.80%), Safaricom(4.62%), Centum Investment(3.90%) and Sanlam Kenya(3.7%). Centum closed the day at Ksh 22.20 per share.
