    Kenya's Active Mobile Money Subscribers hits 31.6 Million

    A recent report released by the Communication Authority of Kenya covering October to December 2018 showed that the number of total active mobile money subscriptions were at 31.6 million while the total number of agents stood at 223,931.

    The mobile money subscriptions represents 63.3 percent of the total mobile subscriptions which stands at 49.5 million, a growth of 6.2 per cent from the previous quarter.

    The mobile subscription had a penetration level of 106.2 per cent with the high penetration being attributed to the multiple SIM cards ownership in the country.

    The value of mobile money transactions recorded for the period under review was Sh 2.1 trillion with a total of 787.8 million transactions (P2P and withdrawals).

    Safaricom’s Mpesa recorded the highest amount of money transacted through its platform Telkom’s T-Kash recorded the lowest amount at Sh 364 million.
