A new survey by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) shows that the number of letters sent in the three months to December 2017 increased from 16.02 million to 16.03 million.
The total number of courier items sent locally increased from 1.7 million to 1.8 million recording a surge of 8.4 percent.
During the same period, international incoming letters decreased 1.3 percent to 1.06 million from 1.07 million recorded in the previous quarter while outgoing letters increased 0.6 percent to 1.09 million letters.
According to the CA, the number of private and postal courier outlets stayed the same at 997 and 623 respectively between the three months period.
Emails and instant phone messaging continue to be the biggest threats to postal and courier services as technology adoption in communication increases.
