The Energy Regulatory Commission has announced new petroleum prices that will be enforced from 15th August to 14th December 2018.

Super petrol increases by Ksh 1.53 while Diesel and Kerosene decrease by Ksh 0.51 and 0.78 per litre respectively.

“The changes in the month prices have been influenced by the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing by 3.08 per cent from US$738.77 per ton in June 2018 to 761.55 per ton in July 2018; Diesel increasing by 0.18 from US$ 731.27 per ton to US$ 761.62 per ton.”

A litre of petrol will retail at Sh113.73 in Nairobi while that of diesel will now retail at Sh102.74 in Nairobi while that of kerosene will retail at Sh84.95. The increase of the prices will be felt countrywide from September 1st.

The hike in petroleum prices comes in the back of the Governments plans to impose a 16 per cent levy on petroleum products following the push by IMF to increase domestic revenue hence reducing government’s loan appetite.

Matatu Owners Association says that fares will go up once the tax levy is implemented.
