Kenya Set to Begin KSh2 Billion Street Name Project

Kenya is set to begin development of the KSh2 billion street name project, dubbed National Addressing System (NAS), this year.

According to the Communications Authority, the development of the street name project will span over a period of five years, with the long term goal of digitally assigning names and numbers to streets, properties and parcels of land so as to enhance recognition.

We expect the project to commence this year after the government through the Ministry of Information Communications and Technologies (MOICT) gazetted a draft legislation that will operationalize and enable coordinated implementation countrywide initially through pilots in selected counties.

    Statement from Communication Authority

If and when this is finally implemented, it will provide the much needed boost in e-commerce. This is because it will ease door-to-door services offered by online retailers, cab-hailing business and hoteliers.

The project, which was conceptulized in 2016, has faced delays in implementation owing to the unavailability of the KSh2 billion. The Star reports that CA has gone as far as seeking funding from the World Bank.
