Kenyan consumers will pay more for fuel after the Energy Regulatory Commission raised retail prices during its monthly review on Thursday.
The regulator raised the maximum retail price of petrol in the capital, Nairobi, by 7.84 percent to 92.93 shillings ($0.92) per litre, mainly due to a increase in the road maintenance levy.
It said the additional levy, which was authorised by the government, amounted to 6.00 shillings per litre of fuel.
It also increased the retail prices of kerosene and diesel.
Costs of energy and transport have a significant weighting in the basket of goods and services used to measure inflation in the East African country. The prices are reviewed each month due to the movement of global oil prices and the exchange rate
