Kenya’s World Rally Championship (WRC) status is now reinstated. The country is officially back to Safari Rally after the premier motorsport competition fell out in 2002. Safari rally is now part of the WRC calendar after 18 years.
Kenya’s status for the race was challenged by countries like New Zealand and Japan who had also placed bids to join WRC. Being the only country in Africa which placed a bid to return to WRC, Her host status was essential to bring out geographic diversity of the championship series.
“We would like to have WRC in different parts of the world to bring out the real definition of the championship,” revealed International Automobile Federation CEO.
