Kenya Re Reinstates Managing Director Dr. Hillary Wachinga After Internal Review

Kenya Reinsurance PLC has reinstated Managing Director Dr. Hillary M. Wachinga after concluding a 2 month internal review process that began in early September.

    • •The reinsurer's board did not disclose the specific reasons for the review, or its findings, but Dr. Wachinga's reinstatement, which took effect from November 6, 2025, marks the end of the process.
    • •During the period, various rumours and commentary circulated regarding internal management decisions, but these were never confirmed in any official board communication.
    • •The General Manager for Property and Investments, Nicodemus Gekone, had served as Acting Managing Director during the review period.

Kenya Re is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange under ticker KNRE. The reinsurance share price declined following the initial suspension announcement, falling from a pre-suspension peak of KSh 3.62 on September 3 and stabilizing around the KSh 3.00 level and has not yet recovered to the levels seen before the suspension.
