Kenya Power's KSh4.1 Billion Tender Cancelled

The Public Procurement Administrative Review Board (PPARB) has cancelled the KSh4.1 billion Last Mile tender that Kenya Power had awarded the French Development Agency .

The electricity distributor had mandated the firm to design, supply, install, construct, and commission transmission lines and power lines under the Last Mile Connectivity Project.

In delivering the ruling, PPARB faulted the firm for locking out local companies from bidding in favour of foreigners, thus breaching the local preference clause in procurement laws.

Furthermore, the board directed the firm to retender the project within 45 days from the date of the cancellation, i.e, 27th January 2020.

But then again, this is not the first instance the electricity distributor is awarding a tender to foreign companies. In January this year, it awarded a KSh740 million tender to China’s Shenzhen Star Instruments Company, tasking it with the supply single-phase prepayment meters.
