Kenya Power Floats Tender for Debt Collection Services

Electricity distributor Kenya Power is inviting bids for the supply of Debt Collection Services, to assist the utility firm to follow up on defaulters who have not settled their electricity bills.

The tender, which commenced on August 19th, 2020 will close on September 2nd, 2020, is not the first time the power company is plotting to deal with defaulters.

Available figures indicate the debt status of Kenya Power was KSh 5.2 Billion as at December 31st, 2019.

This outstanding debt is categorized into two-accounts cancelled on customers’ request and accounts terminated for non-payment.

For administrative purposes, Kenya Power has split this KSh 5.2 Billion debt into regions as follows:- Nairobi ( KSh 2.3 Billion), Coast Region ( KSh 845.7 Million), Central Rift Region( KSh 298.9 Million), West Kenya Region( KSh 386.9 Million), North Rift Region( KSh171.4Million), Mt Kenya Region( KSh 245.8 Million), North Eastern(KSh 620.9 Million) and South Nyanza( KSh 343.1 Million).

Kenya Power is stepping up its efforts to deal with defaulters as it addresses rampant cases of illegal connections, vandalism, bypassing of meters, and fraud involving payment of bills that eat into the company’s bottom line.

It is also working with security agencies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI)and the National Police Service to deal with illegal connections and vandalism.
