Through the partnership, Kenya Power’s 7.1Million domestic customers can now redeem their Bonga Points to purchase tokens or pay for their bills at the rate of 20 cents per Bonga Point.
This new cashless payment platform for electricity consumers happens at a time when many organizations are shifting their business to use of electronic wallets as a way of avoiding cash and containing the spread of COVID-19.
To redeem Bonga points, one is required to dial *126# and select Lipa na Bonga Points, select Pay Bill and enter Business Number 888888 for postpaid and 888880 for prepaid customers.
Presently, Kenya Power customers can pay for electricity using mobile money platforms and bank transfers, as alternative to cash payments.
“As an organization, we are acutely aware of the impact that this pandemic has had on many Kenyans. We are therefore calling on our customers to take advantage of this opportunity ” said Bernard Ngugi, KPLC Managing Director.
Bonga Points is a loyalty scheme for all Safaricom prepaid and postpaid customers who earn points the more they use their line. Bonga Points can be redeemed for rewards ranging from airtime, data, SMS and MMS bundles to merchandise redeemable at any Safaricom retail centre.
“By partnering with Kenya Power, we hope to give our customers more options and freedom in how they utilize their loyalty points,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said.
