Kenya has nominated the immediate former chairman of Nairobi Securities Exchange and current chairman of Telkom Kenya Edward Njoroge, for the position of president in International Organization of Standardizations (ISO).
Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has received confirmation reports from the global standards body that Mr. Njoroge is the only qualified candidate for the position. Mr Eddy has previously served as CEO of power producer KenGen.
Kenya’s C.S for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Peter Munya said the Govt had endorsed Mr Njoroge’s candidature ahead of the September ISO General Assembly in Geneva Switzerland.
“To ensure our voice is heard at the highest level in standardization, the government supports the candidature of Eddy Njoroge for the ISO Presidency 2019-2022. We are indeed hopeful of his appointment at the upcoming ISO General Assembly in September in Geneva, Switzerland.” He said.
“If elected, I purpose to increase and deepen developing countries’ engagement in the ISO activities so that the nations exploit the full value of international standardization, in particular on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).” says Njoroge
He adds that he is committed to boosting ISO’s governance standard as well as working with SME’s to boost their conformity to global standards.
