Kenya is leveraging on the forthcoming 79th SKAL International World congress what will be held in Mombasa to fortify the county’s position as a tourism destination and increase tourist numbers.
So far 200 delegates from 24 countries have confirmed attendance for the 17-21st even with the number expected to go up to 500 says Najib Balala C.S Tourism.
The national and county governments are expected to spend an estimated Ksh 70 million to host the summit. Balala adds that SKAL congress will be instrumental in increasing the number of tourist arrivals in the country.
The congress comes at an opportune time when the county is receiving a major face lift adding in the aesthetic value with the repainting of buildings in the same color.
In May 2015, SKAL International has called off a congress which was supposed to be held in Mombasa but was cancelled over security concerns. The western countries had then issued travel advisories against visiting Mombasa and other coastal regions.
SKAL is professional organization of tourism leaders around the world who promote global tourism and friendship. With approximately 15,000 members,400 clubs and in over 90 countries, SKAL is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry.
