Kenya has legalized drone operations, also referred to as unmanned aircraft systems, for commercial and recreational purposes.
Therefore, manufacture, assembly, modification, testing, and sale of drones can be done in Kenya, subject to approval by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority under the Civil Aviation (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Regulations, 2019,
East Africa is projected to generate revenues well over $150 million in the next 2-3 years from drone operations.
Early this year, the drone regulatory bill was presented to the Members of the National Assembly for approval, even as the authority already allowed the operation of imaging devices on drones provided they are used in search and rescue missions, and mapping and evaluating the earth’s surface.
