Kenya has extended visa free entry to all holders of Indonesian passport as part of a wider plan to correct trade imbalance currently in favour of Indonesia.
The two countries also signed memorandum of understanding and a letter of intent on Monday in Nairobi during the visit of Indonesia President Joko Widodo.
The value of Kenya’s imports from Indonesia stands at USD500 million while exports to Indonesia is at under USD100 million. President William Ruto assured Kenya that the instruments signed on Monday will correct the imbalance favoring the two countries.
The MoU between the ministry of Energy and Petroleum seeks to promote cooperation by sharing knowledge, boosting skills and fostering innovation in diverse aspects of energy sector including geothermal technology advancement, rural electrification, petroleum exploration and production.
The two countries also signed Mou to boost mining and geology through joint studies, knowledge sharing and capacity building. Kenya’s pharmacy and poison board also entered a pact with Indonesia on regulatory cooperation.
The Moses Kuria led Industrialisation ministry signed a letter of intent on investment flows between the two countries.
“In addition, we have signed other six MoUs on oil and gas, agriculture, apparel production, edible oil. Indonesia will be expecting 100,000 livestock to be exported annually to their country from Kenya,” noted President William Ruto.
