The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) will kick off its quarterly “My Chat with a Bank CEO” event this month, hosting live sessions with Chief Executives (CEOs) of local banks and the public.
My Chat with a Bank CEO is a forum by Kenya Bankers Association where various bank CEOs engage online users on topical issues in the banking industry.

Making up the CEO Chat line-up for this quarter are Betty Korir, CEO; Credit Bank, David Mukaru; CEO Caritas Microfinance Bank, Moezz Mir, CEO SBM Bank and Alakh Kohli, CEO MOriental Bank.
Betty Korir, CEO; Credit Bank
Betty Korir, CEO; Credit Bank will host a live session on Friday 7th May and she will tackle the topic “THE CREDIT GUARANTEE SCHEME & SME CREDIT ACCESS”. Ms Betty will discuss how the pandemic has changed the global economic landscape and the responses by the National Treasury and Central Bank of Kenya to bolster the economy following the launch of Credit Guarantee Scheme for SMEs.
Ms Betty will share insights on how SMEs can qualify to get access to the KES. 3 Billion stabilization facility that was set up by the Government through the Public Finance Management Regulations (2020).
David Mukaru; CEO Caritas Microfinance Bank
The newly appointed CEO of Caritas Microfinance Bank Mr David Mukaru will host a live session on 14th May 2021 and he will tackle the topic “STRATEGIES OF ENHANCING SME & HOUSEHOLD ACCESS TO CREDIT”
According to the Central Bank of Kenya, about 75 percent of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face uncertainty if they are unable to secure credit from banks or equity partners. Covid-19 containment measures have caused significant income loss for millions of low-income households, with millions having already lost their jobs. Mr. David will discuss how the Central Bank of Kenya’s monetary interventions have boosted the banking industry to continue to make efforts towards enhancing access to credit for both households and businesses.

Caritas Microfinance Joins Kenya Bankers Association
Moezz Mir, SBM Bank, CEO
SBM Bank Kenya CEO Moezz Mir will host a live session on 21st May 2021 and he will tackle the topic “Anchoring Sectoral-Level Growth Amid Fragile Post-Covid Recovery.”
Mr Moezz will share insights on how banks are collectively and individually exploring ways of best supporting the affected sectors to aid recovery. These include renegotiation of existing contracts and restructuring of payments. To date, the banking sector has restructured an estimated Ksh.1.7 trillion worth of loans, representing 57 percent of the sector’s estimated Ksh.3 trillion loan book.
Alakh Kohli, MOriental Bank, CEO
Mr Alakh Kohli, the CEO of MOriental Bank will wrap up this quarter’s chat session and he will handle the topic “Harnessing Digital Banking Opportunities For Business Continuity” on 28th May 2021.
He will touch on the importance of digital lending solutions on business growth. As the economies align to the post Covid-19 ‘new normal’, digital transacting and lending solutions will be a key driver of business success, particularly in the SME sector.
Hundreds of people have registered to participate in the #CEOChat sessions during which different bank Chief Executive Officers share information and receive feedback on various aspects of banking. In 2020, the Association conducted three editions of the chat, bringing on board CEOs from Standard Chartered Bank, Gulf African Bank and I&M Bank, Citibank, Stanbic Bank, and NCBA Bank.
During the sessions, the public will have the opportunity to be part of the conversation through comments and questions which will be responded to by the relevant CEO hosts.
