Kenya Airways says 7000 travellers have booked its maiden flights to US

Approximately 7000 travellers have booked seats on Kenya Airways ahead of its maiden flight to New York in October. The reservations have been spread across the year as the carrier heeds to the expectation of having fully booked the inaugural flight.

Kenya Airways’ sales director, Julius Thairu, in an interview with the Business Daily said the inaugural flight alone is already more than 80 per cent full.

“To date we have over 7,000 bookings for the New York route with expected cabin factor of above 80 per cent for the inaugural flight. We are entering the booking window and expect to take off with a much higher occupancy,” said Mr. Thairu.

The flight will take about 15 hours which less than the previous 22 hours, which included long layover times. There will be a night flight from Nairobi to New York and a midday flight from New York to Nairobi. KQ has allocated two high-capacity Dreamliner aircraft for the daily flights to New York.

KQ is charging an early bird offer of Ksh 73,230 for a return flight on economy class for customers travelling on 28th October.

A trip will have 204 passengers in the economy class while 30 will be in the business class.
