Kenya Airways Announces Domestic Flights Schedule

Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the schedule for its domestic flights set to resume on Wednesday, 15th July 2020, following President Kenyatta’s lifting of the intercounty lockdown.

According to a press release, Kenya Airways will fly two times daily to Mombasa and once daily to Kisumu, with the option of increasing frequencies as demand picks.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has exempted domestic flights from leaving the middle seat open after they resume passenger flights.

According to KCAA director-general, Gilbert Kibe, flying with the middle row seats empty will be unsustainable. Some airlines will be forced to increase ticket prices, creating a disadvantage to hundreds of passengers. Blocking middle seats would limit airplanes to two-thirds of their normal capacity, not enough for most airlines to make a profit without increasing fares.

The resumption of domestic flights is a move aimed at reviving the Kenyan economy by boosting tourism, ahead of resumption on international flights on 1st August 2020.
