Kenya Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with U.S.-based carrier JetBlue Airways that will allow the Kenyan carrier to sell seats on select JetBlue-operated flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to several destinations across the United States.
- •Under the arrangement, Kenya Airways will place its flight code on JetBlue services connecting New York to cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Orlando, Atlanta, and Fort Lauderdale.
- •Codeshare agreements allow airlines to market flights operated by partner carriers under their own flight numbers.
- •For passengers, this typically means itineraries can be booked on a single ticket even when travel involves more than one airline.
The deal is expected to make it easier for travellers flying with Kenya Airways to connect beyond New York to other U.S. cities. The airline currently operates direct flights between Nairobi and New York, linking East Africa to the United States through its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
While Kenya Airways has existing partnerships with several international airlines, the new arrangement extends its access to JetBlue’s domestic network in the United States. JetBlue primarily operates within North America and the Caribbean but maintains partnerships with international carriers to feed traffic into its U.S. routes.
The agreement also allows travellers originating in the United States to connect onto Kenya Airways flights to Nairobi and onward destinations in East Africa.
Airlines frequently use codeshare partnerships to broaden their networks without launching new routes. Kenya Airways is part of the SkyTeam airline alliance and relies on partnerships with other carriers to support its long-haul connectivity.
