Kenya National Bureau of Standards (Kebs) has nominated the immediate former Nairobi Securities Exchange Chairman Edward Njoroge as a candidate to the position of ISO President, a post that falls vacant next year.
Mr Eddy Njoroge is vying to become the 1st African International Organization for Standardization (ISO) President Since 1947. He is also the first candidate from a developing country in ISO’s nearly 70 years of existence.Zhang Xiaogang from China is the current ISO President. He was elected on 1 January 2015 and his term comes to an end in 2017.
Mr. Njoroge has also been endorsed by members of the African Organization for Standardization as candidate for ISO Presidency for the period (2018-2020). This was during the General Assembly held from June 20 to June 24, 2016.
ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization, with a membership of 162 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges. The organization has its over three quarters’ members from developing countries.
Mr Njoroge was also the Managing Director of KenGen for a period of 10 years where he was instrumental in getting the organization to be ISO certified – ISO 9001 Certified in 2004 and ISO 14001 in 2009.
“In submitting my candidature, KEBS is confident that I meet all the required criteria for the position. I have a wealth of corporate governance experience, having sat and Chaired many Boards not just in Kenya but also in the region,” said Njoroge.
