KDIC Updates Deposit Insurance Coverage Through June 2026

The Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) has published the official list of institutions whose deposits are insured up to 30 June 2026.

Deposits placed in these institutions are protected under the Kenya Deposit Insurance Act, 2012, which guarantees up to KSh 500,000 per depositor per institution in the event of a bank failure.

This statutory guarantee strengthens confidence in the financial system and protects small depositors against potential losses.

    What the Insurance Means

KDIC coverage acts as a safeguard for depositors. Should a licensed bank, mortgage finance institution, or microfinance bank collapse, each depositor is eligible to receive up to KSh 500,000.

    • •The cover is automatic, requires no registration, and is funded through annual contributions paid by member institutions.
    • •The 2025 update confirms that all 39 commercial banks, one mortgage finance institution (HFC Ltd), and 14 licensed microfinance banks remain protected.
