Mucai Kunyiha, KAM's New Board Chair

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has appointed Mucai Kunyiha as its new Chairperson, taking over from Sachen Gudka. Mucai, the Group Managing Director for Cooper K-Brands, an animal health company in East and Central Africa, previously served as the KAM’s vice-chair.

Mucai brings a wealth of expertise in leadership, business, and strategy with prior experience in agriculture, trading, and real estate. Besides his position in Cooper K- Brands, he has also led Hewton Limited, a property development company, for the past 17 years.

The new KAM chairperson also serves the chairman of Kenya Property Developer’s Association.

Mucai Kunyiha has served as the Non-executive director at real estate company Acorn Group Holdings for eight years. Moreover, he was part of the Vision Delivery Secretariat Board, the leadership team in charge of the implementation of Kenya’s vision 2030.

Mucai is also an expert in the law, being an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an LLB graduate from the University of wales.

    Challenges for Chair Mucai Kunyiha

The former vice-chair takes the helm of the association at a time when the manufacturing industry is facing turbulence from the pandemic. Mucai is optimistic that things will change, given adaptability and resilience in SMEs.

“Resilience is going to be critical to our SMEs and MSMEs because things are going to change. We can see that there are businesses that have changed from making dresses to making face masks; we have seen people making more sanitizers after they realized they have the capability. The ability to see our future is what is going to help our SMEs grow.”
