The Kenya Airports Authority has begun the recruitment process for a new CEO following Jonny Andersen’s resignation. Andersen announced that he will resign as the authority’s CEO effective end of September. His untimely departure from the authority comes as a surprise since his first term contract was due on November 2019.
The CEO cited personal reasons as the cause of his departure.
“I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I have taken the decision not to pursue the decision of renewal my contract with KAA. This is after deep reflection and consolation with my family,” a memo sent to the staff read in part.
Andersen’s resignations comes only a few months after Sebastian Mikosz resigned as Kenya Airways CEO, following the airline’s series of losses.
Jonny Andersen joined Kenya Airports Authority in 2016 after leaving Norway’s Avinor AS. His tenure at KAA improved the status of Kenya’s aviation industry. One of his many achievements includes securing JKIA’s approval as a Last Point of Departure. The LPD achievement paved the way for direct flights to the US.
Also, Jonny’s expertise increased KAA’s profits rise to $ 57M in 2017/2018 from $ 24M in 2015/2016. At the same time, his tenure improved operations at JKIA, earning the airport the title “Best Improved Airport” in Africa in 2017.
