The Board of NSE listed media house Standard Group has announced the appointment of Ms Juliana Rotich and Dr Githinji Gitahi as independent non-executive directors. The two appointees began their new roles on 16 March 2018.
About Juliana Rotich
Ms Rotich is an adviser, consultant, entrepreneur, and the former Executive Director at BRCK.org, a post she held since February 2016. She was also the Director at BRCK Inc since October 2013. Between 2011 and 2015, she was the Co-founder and CEO of Ushahidi Inc in Chicago and Kenya. Additionally, Ms Rotich has held posts such as Data Analyst, Program Director, and Consultant at various high-technology companies.
Ms Rotich is an adviser to the councils of BASF, Africa Technology Ventures (ATV), Risk Cooperative, and Lemelson Foundation. Furthermore, she is a Trustee of Bankiter Foundation for Entrepreneurship and innovation in Spain and a Board member of Kenya’s Vision 2030 Delivery Board and Digital Impact Alliance. She is also among the 11 member Blockchain & Artificial Intelligence taskforce recently appointed by the Kenyan government.
She has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, she is an MIT Media Lab Director’s fellow, and Sr TED Fellow with more than 15 years of experience in the IT industry.

About Dr Githinji Gitahi
Dr Githinji is the Group CEO of AMREF Health Africa. He was the former International VP and Regional Director, Africa of Smile Train and International Regional Director, Africa.
Dr Githinji was also the Managing Director of Nation Media Group, Monitor Publications Limited (NMG’s subsidiary in Uganda) and General Manager (Marketing and Circulation.)
He has also worked in senior marketing positions Head, Marketing Manager, Marketing Expert Relations, Medical Marketing Manager, and Group Product Manager(Panadol and Hedex) at GlaxoSmithkline Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. Additionally, he has worked as the Medical Services Manager at Madison Insurance Company Limited.
He has a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing from USIU and a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nairobi.
