Nippon Express, Japan’s largest logistics firm and third largest in the world, has officially launched a subsidiary office in Nairobi, its first in Africa.
The Nairobi office will provide one-stop business solutions that link people and companies beyond national and regional boundaries, via diverse logistics modes, integrating land, air, and marine transport. So far, Nippon has been involved in the export of flowers grown in Kenya.
“The standard-gauge railway connecting Nairobi with Mombasa was opened in June 2017 and, with transport by freight train now available, logistics demand is expected to rise due to the reduction in time and cost for transport inland from Mombasa Port,” said the firm in August last year.
The company plans to implement structures that will enable it to meet customer demand in Kenya and the rest of the East African region. Additionally, it plans to expand its operations to the rest of the African market as it continues to grow.
During the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development that took place in Nairobi in August 2016, the Japanese government announced its plans to disburse Sh3 trillion for both private and public investments from 2016 to 2018. The objective of the funds was to promote the growing number of Japanese companies starting operations in Africa. As a result, we could see more Japanese firms opening their businesses in Africa in 2018.
