Jamie Dimon, CEO of J.P. Morgan, the world’s largest bank, has officially kicked off his Africa-wide trip following the bank’s recent announcement and approval of Representative Offices in both Nairobi and Abidjan.
- This trip comes after J.P. Morgan secured licenses to establish new representative offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
- In Kenya, Dimon is expected to meet with Govt officials and other major industry stakeholders in addition to the US Ambassador to the country.
- Before landing in Kenya, Dimon visited Abuja, Nigeria where he met with senior government officials including the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
- At the moment, Dimon’s schedule does not include any public events in Kenya.
“We are opening our first branch in Kenya which we are really happy to do it” Dimon said at a private event in Abuja.
In a statement to Kenyan Wall Street, J.P. Morgan emphasized that the new offices in Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire will enhance its ability to maintain key relationships with governments, financial institutions, and corporations, while also serving as critical links to its global network.
In Kenya, J.P. Morgan has appointed Sailepu Montet, a former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) executive, as its new Country Manager. Montet will oversee the bank’s operations from Nairobi. Côte d’Ivoire’s office, located in Abidjan, will be led by Michael Ahonzo Avou, who brings 18 years of financial markets experience in SSA, having previously held senior positions at Société Générale.
