Founded in 2020, Rarebreed Ventures is a Pre-seed to Seed venture fund consistently on the hunt for rare breed entrepreneurs. This pre-seed fund invests in exceptional founders primarily outside of large tech ecosystems, earlier than everyone else.
The firm writes cheques of up to $250,000 as the first or one of the first investors in exceptional startups and is based in Baltimore, Maryland-USA.
“When I established Rarebreed, I was not thinking of making any international deals and thought this could be done, perhaps, later. I had a lot of people asking when we were going to invest in Africa. It so happened that the last investment we did out of fund 1 was out of a company that is based in Uganda.” says Mac Conwell, founder and managing partner at Rarebreed Ventures.
Our team spoke to Mac Conwell during the recently held Kauffman Fellowship Summit in Nairobi.
“We are also keen on the agriculture space, which occupies a huge portion of Kenya’s economy. So we intend to begin looking for agro-based startups here in Kenya” said Conwell.
