Africa-focused integrated digital payments and commerce company, Interswitch Group has appointed the former Managing Director of Jumia Group Paul Mwaura Ndichu as its new CEO for the East African market with effect from December 2016.
“Paul joins Interswitch with an illustrious career in Technology, Banking, Payments, Mobile, Telecommunication and innovation. He has deployed mobile and digital commerce solutions in various industries including a multi-national banking group and in one of the leading technology businesses.” The company said in a statement.
Interswitch will look to tap into Paul’s vast knowledge and experience in Technology, strategy and business growth having previously worked at Standard Bank Group for over three years where he held various roles including Regional Head, E-Banking & Strategy, Head of Digital Banking & Payments and was later appointed as the Vice Chair of National Payments Systems SC – KBA (Kenya Bankers Association).
In September 2015, Ndichu was appointed Managing Director of Jumia Group where he was responsible for leading the team behind the taxi hailing mobile application known as ‘Easy App’ and served for 11 months. Between was the lead consultant at Little Cab (Safaricom backed taxi hailing app).
The company is part of Helios Group and began its operations in Kenya in 2015 after acquiring Paynet Group and Pesapoint brand. The company claims that it currently serves more than 22 banks and 3 telcos in Kenya managing a portfolio of more than 1 million cards, an agency network and a suit of Bank ATMs.
