The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has unveiled a KSh3.8 trillion transport infrastructure plan set to be implemented by 2024.
The plan includes 89 short term projects ( 61 projects in transport, 9 in Energy, 14 in ICT, and 5 projects in transboundary waterway). These projects are aimed at facilitating trade and integration, as well as addressing infrastructural needs.
The 8 IGAD countries together have an ocean shoreline with significant potential for a BlueEconomy, underexploited minerals, tremendous potential in Oil, Gas and power generation. These natural resources need to be exploited for the benefit of present and future generations.
