ICJ Reschedules Kenya-Somalia Border Case Hearing to June 2020

The International Court of Justice has moved the maritime case between Kenya and Somalia to June 2020. The delay is after Kenya earlier sought more time to arrange a legal team. The court granted Kenya’s second request, moving the final date of the Kenya-Somalia hearing to 8th-12th June 2020.

Somalia’s Deputy PM confirmed to Somalia’s National TV that the court postponed the matter to accommodate Kenya’s request.

Besides, this is the second time the UN court has moved the Kenya-Somalia maritime border row. The first hearing ought to have taken place on September 9. However, ICJ moved the date to November 4.

As we wait for the new date, citizens remain hopeful that Kenya and Somalia will find amicable ways to settle the maritime border dispute.

In the past months, the two countries have engaged in diplomatic gruel such as unnecessary airspace regulations. Previous attempts to solve the matter out of court have not borne any fruit.
