South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has launched in Somalia. Hyundai will partner with Dahabshiil Group of companies to introduce the Hyundai model cars to Somalia and its adjacent neighbours.
The automaker has introduced eight models which include Grand Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Tuscon, Creta, Elantra, Grand i10, a 14 seater commercial truck and a light track.
Dahabshiil Motors Chief Executive Officer, Awil Sharif stated that Hyundai will have a great impact in the country’s motor industry because of the various ongoing development projects such as DP World Expansion of Berbera Port project. The project will create a free trade zone and the Berbera corridor highway that will connect Berbera Port to other parts of the East African region.
The Hyundai expansion comes a few months after it opened an assembly plant in Ethiopia, the first of its kind in East Africa. The plant has the capacity to assemble for Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti.
